White House Black Market Black Paisley Dress

How do we downplay the sexiness of the strappy stiletto so we can wear them to the office? First, let’s talk dress code.

In my case, I’m lucky enough to work at this awesome place. Where on any given day without hesitation and weather permitting, you can wear shorts and flip-flops, some cute athleisure, or go the polar opposite and totally dress up to the nines wearing something like the sexy strappy stilettos you see above.

Perhaps your office dress code is not so flexible. Maybe you don’t have a desk job or you wear a uniform to work every day. In that case babe, you wear those sexy beauties with whatever you want on your days off.

For the sake of discussion, let’s say the strappy stilettos in question are perhaps a vibrant fire engine patent leather red and the heel, a decent 105mm. How do we downplay such sexiness as to make them appear sensible enough to wear to the office? Do we wear nylons like they did in the 50s? Reach for the default distressed skinny jean? Dress like a nun?

The dress like a nun option clearly would have been my mom’s first suggestion. Being a former nun and all. A story for another day. Speaking of… I’d like to give a big shout out to my Mamma (aka Abuela) today happens to be her 88th birthday! Feliz Cumple Mami!!!

Nylons are so out. Having myself been forced to wear them in the early 90s. Regardless of how high the temps got in downtown LA during the summer. Oh, the torture!

The skinny distressed jean option is, of course, a no-brainer. Unless it’s not casual Friday or jeans are a no-go at the office.

I personally love pairing them with a sensible yet leg flaunting dress. I also love to wear them with cute flirty skirts and casual tops, the balance of sexy and casual helps tone them down a bit. You could also wear them with a chic wide-leg jumpsuit, which are very much on trend this season. I’m loving this one and this one, they both look super flattering.

I hope you found this info helpful. What are some of your favorite ways to downplay sexy stilettos? I’d love to hear! Thanks so much for reading! x -j
